On my way home from work I stopped by WalMart and ran into my former neighbor. This was the guy who lived next to me the whole time I was growing up; during elementary school, he was probably my best guy friend. We dated when I was 10 and he was 11 or 12, and professed our undying love for each other. It was adorable. We eventually got over it, but there's still a very soft spot in each of our hearts for the other.
The last time I saw him he was with his brother and I was with Ayla, so we all stopped and spent about 2 hours catching up in WalMart. He was doing construction; I was still in school, I think it was Jr year, right after I had turned 21 when I was such an alcoholic slut. Both of them were appalled at how much Ayla and I had changed.
This time was much different. He was very pleased to here that I've stopped drinking like a fish, and now act more like a responsible adult, and that I have a steady boyfriend who is amazing. He said he could tell by looking at me that I'd stopped spiralling out of control. We talked about future career goals, so I told him I was back in school working on my Master's Degree in Teaching. He was like that's cool; wouldn't it be really awesome if my kids had you as a teacher? He's going into the police force. Last time he was 7th but they only took 2. This time he said his goal is to be number 1 so they have to take him. I hope he makes it.
After I left WalMart, I had to get gas, so I stopped before I left the parking lot. There was a girl who couldn't get her car to start. I asked her if she needed a ride anywhere since I was just going home to work on my midterm, she said that would be great she'd really appreciate it. When she got in the car, she told me I looked really familiar. I was a little afraid because she looked really familiar too, and I was afraid that she was the girl who threatened to kick my ass because her boyfriend (now husband) got it in his head that I was going to sleep with him. Let me say, I would never sleep with him ever. But I digress; this was not the girl. We asked each other when we graduated, what high school we attended, and several other questions to try to figure out how we knew each other. FInally we figured out that we went to elementary school together and she was a couple of year older than me. I asked her what her name was, and it turns out that her dad worked with my dad for like 10 years, and we had known each other since I was 3 or 4 and she was 5 or 6, but hadn't seen each other in 10 years. I dropped her off at her house, and she got into another car and headed to work.
Very strange day at WalMart. Yet another reason why I'm cool with my parents living here so I can come home to visit, but I do NOT want to live here.
